Website upgrade on Tuesday 23 June

What we are doing to upgrade our website to improve accessibility and security for customers.

Recycling centres

Recycling centres are for household items only and are free for Cardiff residents to use.

Please bring proof of booking and proof of address when you visit a recycling centre.

Only visit a recycling centre to get rid of items that you are unable to dispose of at the kerbside. Please read full terms and conditions before making a booking.

We only cater for small DIY projects. You need to hire a skip or use the commercial site for large DIY projects.

Items must fit into the boot of your car. Our staff will not be able to assist you to unload your car.

You must not bring unsorted black bags, unsorted recycling, or mixed builders waste to the recycling centre. If you bring any unsorted waste, you will be asked to open your bags and sort any recyclable items.

How many times can you visit?

You can book up to 26 visits per year to a recycling centre. You will need to book a time slot each time you visit.

If you are visiting in a car, you can use your allowance flexibly but cannot visit more than three times per day.

If you are visiting in a van, or a car with a trailer, you can only book 1 visit per month.

What items can you take to a centre?

We do not accept mixed bags of general waste at our recycling centres. This type of waste should be put out in your black bin, or black bags if you use them, for kerbside collection.

If you use all kerbside recycling services available and our hygiene collection service for nappies and incontinence waste this will minimise the amount of general waste you produce.

Please try to recycle as much as you can in your food caddy and recycling bags. If you are unable to manage with your general waste allowance, you can use a private waste contractor. You will need to make sure they are a registered waste carrier.

You can take most items to both centres. Please check before visiting.

Non-recyclable waste

If you have items that we cannot recycle you can bring them to the site.

Before putting them in the skip our site attendants will need to confirm that your items are non-recyclable. We recommend you use clear bags or a container to help with this process. If you need to use bags to transport the items, you will need to open them to show our staff. You must not use Council issued green bags.

Examples of the material that can be put into our non-recyclable waste skip include:

  • Pet waste for example cat litter or animal bedding
