Website upgrade on Tuesday 23 June

What we are doing to upgrade our website to improve accessibility and security for customers.

Hygiene collections

Hygiene collections are every week.

You can sign up for hygiene collections if your household uses:

  • nappies,
  • adult incontinence pads, or
  • bed liners.

When you sign up to the service, we will provide you with purple hygiene bags.

We no longer provide yellow storage caddies. You can use your own container to store the bags in between collections. Caddies should be used for storage only, please do not put your caddy out for collection.

Apply for a hygiene collection

You can apply for a hygiene collection by completing the online application form or calling C2C on 029 2087 2087.

Once your application has been processed, we will deliver your hygiene bags within 7 to 10 working days.

To dispose of your colostomy or stoma bags and catheters safely and hygienically, please empty the contents of the bag into your toilet, wrap the bag and place in your general household waste for collection.

Needles or syringes

You will need to arrange a sharps collection with your local health board. Cardiff Council does not collect needles or syringes.

For more information and advice about medical waste contact your local health board, district nurse team or NHS Direct.

Putting your hygiene waste out for collection

You can put your hygiene bags out for collection, or we can arrange to collect them from a discreet location. You can choose where you would like your bags to be collected from when you apply.

Hygiene collections are a weekly service. You can put out your hygiene bags on all your waste collection days. Find out when to put out your bags or bins.

Do not keep your hygiene bags in a storage container when putting them out for collection. We will not collect them from inside the container.

Hygiene waste bags can be heavy. Please separate your hygiene waste between bags to reduce the weight. You can put out as many bags as you need.

If your bag splits, please put the split bag inside another bag.

If you do not put your hygiene bags out for four collections in a row, you will be removed from the service. You can re-apply for the service again at any time.

Getting more bags

Towards the end of your hygiene bag roll, there will be an indicator for our crews to know to leave you more. If you put out your hygiene waste in a bag that has an indicator, our crews will see this.

Cardiff Cloth Nappy Library

Welsh Government estimate around 143 million disposable nappies are thrown away in Wales each year. Reusable cloth nappies are an alternative which offer long term financial and environmental benefits.

If you are interested in trying out washable cloth nappies, Cardiff has a Cloth Nappy Library offering helpful advice and insight on using reusable nappies. A set of cloth nappies can be hired for a small fee, allowing you to trial them for a month.

For more information and updates about upcoming Nappy Library drop-in sessions, please follow Cardiff Cloth Nappy Library on Facebook or contact [email protected].
