The Cardiff Local Housing Market Assessment (LHMA) looks at how many more homes are needed in the area over the next 15 years, based on new guidance from the Welsh Government.
The assessment found that Cardiff needs 14,407 new affordable homes over the next 15 years, which is 960 new homes each year. It also found that 11,490 new market homes are needed during the same period, with about 766 new homes needed each year.
The LHMA also looks at specific housing needs in Cardiff, such as:
- Homes that are accessible or adapted for people with disabilities
- Larger homes for big or multi-generational families
- Non-permanent housing (like temporary housing)
- Housing and support for older people
- Housing and support for people with special needs
- Where student accommodation is needed
- Housing needs for people with physical or cultural requirements
The report is used to help plan future housing strategies and planning policies for the area.
