Sections 168 to 171 of the Equality Act 2010 outline the rules for carrying guide dogs and other assistance dogs in Wales and England.
The act states that hackney carriage and private hire drivers must:
- carry assistance dogs at no extra cost, and
- not treat anyone with an assistance dog unfairly.
If you have a medical condition that means you cannot carry an assistance dog in your vehicle, you can apply for an exemption. You must provide evidence of your condition from a specialist when you apply.
If your application is successful, we will send you an exemption sticker. You must clearly display this on your windscreen.
