Separate recycling collections

We are introducing separate recycling collections across the city.

We will deliver the containers you need along with an information leaflet explaining the scheme. You will find the sacks inside the caddy.

Once the separate collections start for your property, we will no longer collect green recycling bags and they will not be available from stockists.

If you live in a block of flats with communal recycling bin collections, this change will not affect you. Find out about recycling if you live in a flat.

Areas changing to separate recycling from 16 July

If you live in these areas, we will be delivering the containers from 10 June:

  • Adamsdown
  • Caerau
  • Heath East

  • Star Hub
  • St Mellons Hub
  • Whitchurch Library

If you need an extra or replacement sack, you can collect them from some Hubs.

If you need an extra or replacement caddy, you can order online.

You will only be able to pick up sacks and caddies and order them online once your area has moved over to the new collections.
  1. Separate your recycling into your new containers.
  2. Do not overfill your sacks.
  3. Make sure the sacks are closed using the Velcro on the flap and handle.

Your waste must be put out for collection by 6am on the day of your collection, or no earlier than 4:30pm the day before your collection.

If you have help to put your bins and bags out you do not need stickers for your sacks and caddy. We will continue to help with your collections.

We use vehicles with two separate compartments for your recycling. Items from the blue sack go into one side of the vehicle and items from the red sack go into the other.

We have a different vehicle to collect the glass recycling.

Please be aware that sometimes our vehicles go for a service or an MOT. This may mean we have to use a general waste vehicle to collect your recycling. Please be assured this does not have a negative impact on the quality of the recycling materials you have separated for collection.
