Join your local library free of charge and access a range of services.
You can do this online or in person at any of our Hubs and libraries.
You can borrow books and eBooks, and use the computers for free, but we charge for other services like borrowing CDs.

When you join online, you will get a user ID to log in. You will not need a library card, but you can still get one at your local Hub or library.

When you join in person, you will need to show proof of ID. For example, a:
- driving licence,
- credit or debit card,
- utilities bill,
- bank or credit card statement,
- passport, or
- student ID or NUS card, including International Student Identification Card (ISIC) and International Youth Travel Card (IYTC).
If you are under 16, your parent or carer will need to show one form of ID and sign the application.
You can also use your existing library card to join Cardiff Libraries if you are a member of another library service in:
- Wales,
- England, or
- Northern Ireland.
Renewals and overdue items
Please note that books are currently being renewed automatically, which means that overdue fines will not usually apply. This is temporary and subject to change.

If
you have not finished with the item that you have borrowed, you may be able to renew it, as long as it has not been reserved by someone else. You can:

renew online,
- call the library to renew over the phone, or
- take the item back to a library and renew in person.
You will need your library card and PIN if you are renewing online.
There are no fines on children’s books, but please return them to us as close to the due date as you can.
