Cardiff Councillor Jane Henshaw, who has become the 119th Lord Mayor of Cardiff, has named Cardiff Food Bank​ as her chosen charity for her term of office.


Councillor Henshaw will be assisted in the key ambassadorial role for the city by Councillor Helen Lloyd Jones​ who is the new Deputy Lord Mayor.  Both Councillors took up their positions at Cardiff Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday 23 May 2024.

Councillor Henshaw said “It is a great honour to become the 119th Lord Mayor of Cardiff, and only the 17th female to be appointed to this role.  Last year I supported Councillor Molik as her Deputy Lord Mayor and I am excited to now represent the citizens of Cardiff as their Lord Mayor”.

The Lord Mayor acts as the lead ambassador for the city’s civic functions, and as the chairperson at Full Council meetings.

Councillor Henshaw was first elected to the council in 2017 and was re-elected in 2022 to represent the Splott ward.  Her daughter Angharad Anderson is her Lady Mayoress.

Councillor Henshaw was born in Wrexham, North Wales and moved to Cardiff in 2014. She has a partner and they have four children and four grandchildren.  She has an English/History Degree and an Acupuncture degree, and has run a successful small business as an acupuncturist.

Councillor Henshaw takes over as Lord Mayor from Councillor Bablin Molik and Councillor Lloyd Jones takes over as Deputy Lord Mayor from Councillor Henshaw​.
